About the business area - Group Risk Management

ADCB prioritises a disciplined approach to risk, recognising its fundamental importance to the Bank’s long-term organisational and financial resilience. Group Risk Management oversees the implementation of ADCB's risk objectives, identifying and addressing gaps in the bank's risk infrastructure/framework. Their responsibilities include nurturing the independence of the risk function, establishing provisioning policies, and introducing changes to energise risk awareness among front office personnel and decision-makers. Continuously tuning the risk organisation in line with market best practices, they manage ADCB's portfolio and associated risks to international standards, while establishing a clear risk culture across all areas of operation.

 

In this role, your key responsibilities include:

  • To manage and deliver integrated risk governance, strategy and subsidiary oversight across ADCB by consolidating multi‑risk insights, harmonising enterprise risk management frameworks, and overseeing Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP), risk appetite and stress testing to ensure resilient performance and compliance across the Group and its subsidiaries
  • Develop and deliver integrated risk insights by consolidating credit, market, operational, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), reputational, strategic, Sharia non‑compliance, internal Sharia risk control and model risk into a coherent Group‑wide view
  • Analyse data from all risk verticals and subsidiaries to produce forward‑looking assessments and actionable insights that inform Board and Executive decisions, enhance risk appetite settings and reinforce strategic resilience
  • Establish and enhance Group risk governance frameworks, standards and policies across all material risk types and subsidiaries
  • Lead the governance of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) and Board Risk Committee (BRC), ensuring structured agendas, comprehensive materials, accurate documentation and closure of actions
  • Provide enterprise‑level oversight of subsidiaries including Meedaf, Private Banking, Kazakhstan, Egypt and Al Hilal Bank to ensure alignment with Group governance and risk appetite
  • Maintain and enhance the ERM framework and policies applicable across ADCB and its subsidiaries
  • Align all risk types, including credit, market, operational, Sharia, ESG and model risk, within a unified governance structure that satisfies regulatory expectations
  • Lead policy harmonisation and provide guidance to ensure that subsidiaries and Group functions apply ERM standards consistently while accommodating local regulatory and business requirements
  • Direct the consolidation of Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP), stress testing outputs and Group‑wide risk appetite statements
  • Define minimum standards, challenge key assumptions, ensure thorough scenario analysis and integrate risk, strategy and capital perspectives
  • Produce a consolidated Group‑level view of capital adequacy and appetite utilisation that supports Board decisions, regulatory submissions and internal financial planning
  • Lead horizon scanning and early warning processes across all jurisdictions in which ADCB operates
  • Integrate macroeconomic, geopolitical, regulatory, sector and ESG risks into Group and subsidiary risk profiles
  • Collaborate with subsidiary Chief Risk Officers (CROs) to identify emerging themes, escalate significant issues to governance bodies and ensure integration into ICAAP, stress testing, risk appetite and policy updates for proactive risk mitigation
  • Act as primary liaison with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE), regulatory colleges and external stakeholders on risk governance, ICAAP, stress testing and subsidiary oversight matters
  • Lead the preparation and validation of regulatory submissions to ensure timeliness, accuracy and completeness
  • Support transparent supervisory dialogue and anticipate evolving regulatory expectations across Group and subsidiary jurisdictions
  • Lead the design, consolidation and delivery of integrated risk reports, dashboards and presentations for senior governance forums
  • Provide clear analysis of Group and subsidiary risk profiles, appetite utilisation, stress testing results and emerging risks
  • Continuous refinement of metrics, escalation thresholds and visualisation to enhance clarity, decision support and strategic alignment at Executive and Board levels
  • Oversee model risk governance across the Group, ensuring standards for development, validation, monitoring and change control
  • Partner with Sharia governance to embed Sharia non‑compliance risk oversight within Group and subsidiary governance
  • Drive integration of ESG risks into ERM, appetite, ICAAP and subsidiary oversight, ensuring ADCB remains aligned with regulatory and stakeholder expectations
  • Manage self and team in line with ADCB’s people management policies, procedures, processes and practices to ensure adherence and to maximise own and employee contribution to business performance
  • Manage the effective achievement of the team’s objectives through setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing the team and providing formal and informal feedback to maximise overall performance, engagement and motivation
  • Recommend and implement improvements to departmental policies, procedures and processes covering all areas of activity so that all relevant procedural requirements are fulfilled while ensuring that ADCB delivers best-in-class services, products and innovation
  • Identify opportunities to contribute to organisational and departmental change initiatives, programmes and projects taking into account best practice and standards in the business environment

The ideal candidate should have the following experience

  • At least 9 years of experience in risk or control‑based roles within banking or financial services, including exposure to enterprise risk governance, ICAAP, stress testing and subsidiary oversight
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, risk management, mathematics or a related discipline
  • Professional certifications such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
